Do You Believe in Superstitions?
NYE practices that would bring good luck and prosperity.
Superstitions, I used to believe in them, but as I got older and wiser, I realized they are not true — just myths and old wives' tales. But having said that, I was rushing to return home last night from an NYE party celebration because I must be home before midnight.
It's not like the Cinderella story or anything, but I must welcome the new year at home to bring good luck and prosperity. As silly as it sounds, I still do this every end of the year. Even though I no longer live in my country of birth (where I learned all traditions and superstitions), I still practice this end-of-year tradition.
Growing up in the Philippines, I was always taught to believe in superstitions, and one of the most important times to observe these superstitions was on New Year's Eve. The belief back then — and even now — is that if you don't spend the new year at home, you will have bad luck throughout the coming year.
More specifically, if one wants better luck, follow such intricate preparation at home. For example, according to superstition, having stripes or dots on one's clothing would bring more money into their home; likewise, setting out a bowl of round or circled fruits on the table was also said to bring good luck for the coming…
