A poem for my Mother.

An elderly mother with her adult daughter hugging each other, both happy and glad to be together.

It’s the month of May, the year 2022
The first Mother’s Day without you
Today I’d usually ring to wish you
A Happy Mother’s Day with kisses too
But you’re no longer there to answer
For you left us last September.

I thought heaven was so cruel
For not letting me break the rules
The pandemic imprisoned me
In my adopted home country
Where our safety is the priority
Mother, I begged you to wait for me.

You left us catching your breath
You only had a few hours on earth
Your wrinkly fingers turning blue
Your heartbeat was running so slow.
I can see you but cannot touch you
Mother, you can now let go.

I miss you, and I so want to hug you
But not being able to do so
It broke my heart in two
For I could not come to see you
It pained me to hear you go
Mother, I love you.
