Why is Finland once again the happiest country in the world?
What can we learn?
The Finns have this concept called Sisu. There is no English term for it, but it means bravery, the strength of will, resilience, determination, perseverance, positivity, courage and dignity in adversity.
My Finnish husband and I are again debating why is Finland the happiest country for the fifth year. We have had discussions and debates regarding this result for five years now.
You'd think that he'd say, "We deserve the title because we have the best education system, the best healthcare system, the highest standard of living, the lowest crime rate and a 99% corrupt-free government".
But I tell you what; he doesn't seem convinced. But he'd agree to a certain degree, but he has his opinions. Being a Finn, bragging about his country's achievements is a big no-no.
Meanwhile, here I am, a foreigner in his native land (who has only lived in Finland for several years), firmly believes that Finland deserves the title of the "Happiest Country in the World."
But my husband and I are currently living in Australia debating about it. Two migrants, sitting in the living room (with our dog Zeus in the middle as the mediator), sweating like pigs because our air conditioner had stopped working.
